Question:

I recently twisted my ankle while playing. What is the best thing that I can do to recover ASAP? My batizado is in 2 months!?!

Answer:

The first thing that you need to do is to prop your leg up so that it is higher then your heart.

You can then apply ice to your ankle in 20 minute intervals. Do this for the first 48 to 72 hours.

After 2-3 days, you can start applying a heat pad in 20 minute intervals.

Some people find it beneficial to switch between the ice and the heat.

Ibuprofen can also be used to reduce swelling.

Make sure that you stay off of your injured ankle.

If you suspect that there are broken bones in there, do not hesitate to go and see a doctor for x-rays.

Many capoeristas have been praising the practice of Myofascial Release Therapy. This type of therapy has been said to drastically reduce the amount of time it takes to recover from sprains and strains.

Fascia is the soft tissue that holds the body together. When an injury happens, the fascia forms a web like pattern to help immobilize the injured area. A lot of times, the fascia takes a long time to restructure itself into the strand-like formations that existed before the injury.

Myofascial Release Therapy uses massage and various therapeutic activities to release the fascia, and shorten recovery time. If this choice seems right for you, make sure that you seek out a licensed therapist, and ask for their credentials and references.
